Kershaw County Historical Society Program
At the Camden Archives & Museum
1314 Broad Street, Camden, SC
………………………..
Enjoy insights into the working world of historians who put “bits and pieces” together to weave understanding of the past.
Guest speaker Dr. Allen H. Stokes Jr., librarian emeritus and former director of the South Caroliniana Library, will introduce us to a recently acquired collection he is working with—the Cantey Family Papers—which include many bits and pieces related to area history. Some of these items will be displayed. Citizens surnamed Cantey have been closely associated with Kershaw County’s development from early settlement through present time.

Program attendees will also be invited to view the Archives’ current exhibit John Bartlam, Master Potter: America’s First Porcelain, in which bits and pieces of archaeology help retell a story. Bartlam set up pottery works in early Camden, his life story becoming entangled in the Revolution.
