Historical Markers

The Society is currently working to have historical markers erected to designate Cary's Fort, Tiller's Ferry, and Clermont (Rugeley's Fort). The Society has the responsibility for the care of most of the historical markers presently in the county, many of which were erected over many years through  KCHS activities. Below are pictured some of the Society members and community citizens who aided in the 2006 dedication of a Liberty Hill marker designating Peay's Ferry Road.

Historic Preservation

The Society in 2007 agreed for the first time to hold an easement which will preserve a significant Camden property from subdivision development. Holly Hedge, an historic estate on a portion of the Hobkirk Hill Revolutionary battlesite, is the first property on which the Society has undertaken such a responsibility, offered to them by its current owners, themselves preservation-minded members. Below, an old postcard view of Holly Hedge during the early 20th century tourist era indicates the age-old interest in the grounds of the old home.

About Our Friends

A number of Society members were among citizens attending the May 2008 dedication of the Camden Archives expansion and renovation, which honored with a special plaque its late director Agnes B. Corbett, also a long-time member of the KCHS Board.
